300 (Warner Bros. 2007)

I'm trying really hard to keep the movies on this blog with some sort of an American theme. The following movie has nothing to do with the good ol' U.S. of A, but rest assure. You're not going to find too many libs that are gonna like this flick, which I suppose is the ultimate reason why 300 made the list this week on ECM.

300, starring Gerald Butler as Spartan King Leonidas, is a retelling of the ancient Battle of Thermopylae, when 300 Spartans fought to the death against Xerxes and his gigantic Persian Army. While watching this film, it's very hard to ignore the parraells between this story and our country's current situation with the War on Terror.
King Leonidas and Sparta face a brutal, ruthless enemy.

Spartan council members choose not to support the King in fighting the Persians.

Some members are traitors and go as far as to meet with the Persians, of course without the approval of the King.

Despite the lack of support from the council, the King realizes that their foolishness will cost the lives of many Spartans.

The King and his 300 loyal warriors pursue the enemy and protect their country's freedom.
The special effects and the way the film was produced is tremendous, but I have to give you guys a warning...it's pretty dadgum violent, so make sure the kiddies are out of the room! My only wish is that I saw it in the theater. This is a great movie with a strong conservative message about evil. Find it...and kill it.

Here is the trailer from 300.

edge - this is one we've been wanting to watch for several weeks - if we can sit long enough!

"find evil and kill it!" that is one of the best lines i've read in awhile.

It's hard to get out to the movies sometimes, especially for flicks that are not on the top of the list.

But I'm exciting to get this movie on DVD - I like stuff with traditional messages of good versus evil.

Take care!
