The Truman Show (Paramount 1998)

How in the world did I forget The Truman Show?

Great movie, even if you're not a big Jim Carrey fan. Quite honestly, I thought he did an extraordinary job with this role. Below is from IMDb...

In this movie, Truman is a man whose life is a fake one... The place he lives is in fact a big studio with hidden cameras everywhere, and all his friends and people around him, are actors who play their roles in the most popular TV-series in the world: The Truman Show. Truman thinks that he is an ordinary man with an ordinary life and has no idea about how he is exploited. Until one day... he finds out everything. Will he react?

Now some libs might say after watching this Now see? SEE!? Big business is EVIL! A corporation bought Truman and exploited him!

Though this is true in the film I don't recall too many conservatives wishing that government or corporate America control their lives. What gets me about The Truman Show is the discovery of TRUTH and what do you do with the TRUTH?

Throughout the history of the world, billions have been enslaved by dictatorships they once whole-heartedly supported. However, when these people learned the TRUTH it was time to make a plan. It was time to take risks. It was time to either live free or die trying.

The Truman Show also portrays the media in a very dim light...of course we all know that the media is usually fair right? Right?

These are just a few reasons why this movie is so remarkable and if you haven't seen it, please do!

Here is the trailer...

I am not a Jim Carey fan. In fact, I dislike his usual approach to "acting," if that is the word for what he does. But, yeah, he's very good in this movie, and it's a good show all around.

Have you seen Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind? I really, really recommend it. I was floored by how flat out brilliant that film is. The movie itself hinges on a remarkably fresh and creative story-telling device, the direction by Michel Gondry is pitch perfect, and both Jim Carey and Kate Winslet amazed me with their perfect performances. Especially Carey, who performed so far above his usual standards that it's only made me more annoyed by the awful work he's done since.
