It might be a little premature to take him for a Republican, or even a "conservative." All we really know is that he says his experience in the joint doesn't predispose him toward liberalism. So while he could possibly be a Republican or a conservative, he could also be a libertarian, or simply be apolitical. I totally understand your enthusiasm, though. I felt the same way about David Mamet.
