When Hollywood wants to get a war movie right...they can get a war movie right! And that's exactly what happened with the film we're about to review. Interestingly the story of The Great Raid is true which, in my opinion, makes it even more spectacular!
Set in the Philippines in 1945 towards the end of WWII, under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Henry Mucci and Captain Robert Prince, the 6th Ranger Battalion undertake a daring rescue mission against all odds. Traveling thirty miles behind enemy lines, they intend to liberate over 500 American Soldiers from the notorious Cabanatuan Japanese POW camp in the most audacious rescue ever.
Make no mistake about it, this is a pro-American, pro-military, pro-victory flick which is exactly why The Great Raid is the ECM Movie of the Week!
I wonder if they teach things like this (below) in History classes today?
I teared up BIG TIME when they showed this part.
