I knew there was a reason why I find most movies about the Vietnam War distasteful.
They're liberal.
Most WWII movies aren't, but when it comes to Vietnam the Hollywood Left loves using it as a personal punching bag for their anti-military and anti-American views.
Then there is the Mel Gibson classic We Were Soldiers. Instead of making our guys look like a bunch of nutjobs, Gibson tells the true story of heroic young men and their families. You want to pull for these guys. You're heart will break when they fall, and you will rejoice when they stick it to the North Vietnamese.
What if stories like this made it out to the general public during the 1960's? Would the outcome of the war be different? Would Vietnam be a different place? Would America?
Without knowing it, I guess I'm keeping the single parent theme for movies of the week (Last week was a similar movie called Trouble Along the Way)!
What would happen if the government came to your house and said your parenting skills really suck and we're taking your kids? I'm betting most of you would not just hand them over. Well, neither would Desmond Doyle, an Irish single dad who took on not only Ireland's Government but the Catholic Church to bring his children home.
Desmond Doyle is devastated when his wife abandons their family on the day after Christmas. His unemployment and the fact that there is no woman in the house to care for the children, Evelyn, Dermot and Maurice, make it clear to the authorities that his is an untenable situation. The Catholic Church and the Irish courts decide to put the Doyle children into Church-run orphanages. Although a sympathetic judge assures Desmond that when his financial situation reverses, he will be able to get his children back; money is hard to come by. During that time, Evelyn and her brothers suffer the abuses of living in orphanages while Desmond struggles to secure finances. Now he must battle the courts to get his children back.
Fighting government and power at the highest levels makes Evelyn the Edge Conservative Movie of the Week!

What kind of superpower would you like to have? Some might say super strength or being able to fly. How would you use it? Stop terrorists? Border jumpers? Commies? Hillary? All of the above?

A rather odd thing has just occurred in the life of Peter Parker: after being bitten by a genetically modified spider, his body chemistry is altered muta-genically. He can now scale walls and ceilings, he has superhuman strength and super-fast reflexes, and he develops a precognitive sense that warns him of approaching danger.
Adopting the name Spider-Man, Peter first uses his newfound powers to make money, but after his uncle is murdered at the hands of a criminal Peter failed to stop, he swears to use his powers to fight the evil that killed his uncle. At the same time, scientist and businessman Norman Osborn, after exposure to an experimental nerve gas, develops an alternate personality himself: the super-strong, psychotic Green Goblin!
Peter Parker must now juggle three things in his life: his new job at a local newspaper under a perpetually on-edge employer (who runs stories degrading Spider-Man's heroics), his battle against the evil Green Goblin, and his fight to win the affections of beautiful classmate Mary Jane Watson, against none other than his best friend Harry Osborn, son of Norman Osborn! Is this challenge too much for even the Amazing Spider-Man to handle?
Doing the right thing, making sacrifices, fighting the press and fighting evil...sounds like a guy I know...minus the red and blue tights of course.
