Swiss Family Robinson (Walt Disney 1960)

Well...the url www.conservativeflix.com is no more. I have gone back to my original blog address conservativemovies.blogspot.com and changed the title of my blog back to Edge's Conservative Movies.

Why? There comes a time in every bloggers life that he or she must...really remember to repurchase their custom URL. I didn't so...there ya' go.

Not exactly sure what happened to My Movie Music. Over half of them got deleted over the weekend. So if there was a particular piece you liked to listen to and it isn't there...it was one of the 34 that's gone.

Anyway...onto the movies!

I have another survival movie for you and for the fam! Disney's adventure classic Swiss Family Robinson is a great story of survival, leadership, courage, invention...pretty much everything that makes America (or the Swiss I guess) great!

Here is the synopsis from IMDb...

A family in route to New Guinea is shipwrecked on a deserted tropical island. They are forced to remain on the island because of the damage to the ship and the pirates that are roaming the islands. They create a home on the island (centering around a huge tree house) and explore the island and it's wildlife. Plenty of adventure ensues as the family deals with issues of survival, pirates, and the brothers must learn how to live on the island with an uncertain future.

The Most Dangerous Game (RKO Pictures 1932)

I love a good survival movie...no matter how old it is.

I read this story The Most Dangerous Game when I was in high school and thought 'I wonder if it was ever made into a movie.'

Well...it was. In 1932. I never watched it until recently and ya' know it was a pretty good one. Yah, the acting was little on the lame side, but as I said earlier...'I love a good survival movie.'

It's easy in life when you're the hunter and not the hunted. Take college football for instance. If you've never won the big game folks expect you to lose. When you win the big game...all is well...then some other team wants to come for you the next week.

As conservatives in today's political climate we are 'the hunters'. Though it may sound strange...we need to be 'the hunted' again. We need to be the big dog on the block once again and become the ones the libs will try to knock off. Success in 2010 is not guaranteed by any means, but I believe we as conservative will succeed.

Can we survive after success? This, I'm not so sure.

Zombieland (Columbia 2009)

Ok.

Well, it may be a stretch to call the horror-comedy Zombieland a "conservative" flick, but...

1. It is a story about survival.

2. It has guns...lots and lots of guns.

3. This movie may be the key to living or dieing during an actual zombie attack.

For instance, here is a good rule that you should probably remember and follow...

Rule 4: Doubletap: Carrying a gun is a great idea but it should never be your primary weapon. When you do end up using it for that last minute 'oh s--t' moment remember to double tap. Its an emergency and thats why your using it and not your cricket bat so why skimp? One bullet more in the head will go a long way to ensuring your survival.

Folks, this movie is funny. I mean REAL funny! If you can stand the gore you'll make it through Zombieland and become a fan. I can almost guarantee there will be sequel in the near future.

The horror comedy Zombieland focuses on two men who have found a way to survive a world overrun by zombies. Columbus is a big wuss -- but when you're afraid of being eaten by zombies, fear can keep you alive. Tallahassee is an AK-toting, zombie-slaying' bad ass whose single determination is to get the last Twinkie on earth. As they join forces with Wichita and Little Rock, who have also found unique ways to survive the zombie mayhem, they will have to determine which is worse: relying on each other or succumbing to the zombies.

Cast Away (Dream Works SKG 2000)

First off, let me welcome you all back for another year of great conservative films! I hope everyone had a great Christmas, some time off, and a great New Year!

Some folks, well...just didn't get this movie. They thought it was too dull or slow. However, if you are into survival movies (such as I am) I think you will enjoy Cast Away with Tom Hanks.

After FedEx systems engineer Chuck Noland is ripped out of his hasty life by the clock in a plane crash, he finds himself alone on the shores of a tropical island. First, frustration gets to him and then he realizes how little his chances are to ever get back to civilization. Four years later, Chuck has learned very well how to survive on his own: mending his dental health, catching fish with a spear, predicting the weather with a self-made calendar. A photograph of his girlfriend Kelly has kept his hopes alive all these years. Finally, Chuck takes the opportunity to take off for home: He sets off on a wooden raft with a sail that has washed ashore.

Keep in mind folks...there is no government there to bail ol' Tom out on this island. No "hope and change" just sand, coconut trees, and whole hell of a lot of water. Once his character realizes ain't nobody coming to pick him up...he has to take it up a notch.

So why do I like these kind of movies? I just want to be the guy on the island that can say...Hey y'all! I saw this in a movie once! Wouldn't that be cool? I mean to totally find a neat way to catch fish, or make a compass, or build a raft?

The Edge (FOX 1997)

No, I didn't post The Edge as the Edge Conservative Movie of the Week because of my name.

I posted the film because so many people have asked me to watch it! I finally did, and folks it did not disappoint. It ranks right up there with the other "survival" movie I reviewed earlier Island in the Sky.

And wouldn't you know it? National Review has listed The Edge as a conservative movie too (even if it does star Alec Baldwin).

Here is the review from National Review writer Michael Long who is also a director of the White House Writers Group.

Screenwriter David Mamet uses a wilderness survival story about friendship, betrayal, and forgiveness to present a few truths rarely seen in movies: Knowledge has its limits, fortitude is a weapon against hardship, and honor can motivate even the shallowest man to great sacrifice. Some have interpreted the film as a Cold War allegory because it features a menacing bear. The main characters (played by Anthony Hopkins and Alec Baldwin) understand that there is neither wisdom nor nobility in waiting for others to save them, and that they must take responsibility for their own lives and souls. Life is unfair, but to challenge life on its own terms is an exhilarating reward, no matter the outcome.

Putting your differences aside to fight a common and deadly enemy makes The Edge the ECM Movie of the Week!

The Edge Conservative Movie of the Week, Island in the Sky starring John Wayne and James Arness is a true story about survival, courage, friendship and faith!

This has to be one of the best unknown John Wayne films of all time, and there's a reason. John Wayne, in this movie, is not John Wayne! Now, I'm not gonna explain any further. I'll just leave it at that, but you have to watch the film to find out what I mean, and trust me it will be worth it! He's still the hero, he still gets it done, but just watch! This may be John Wayne's best acting job!

Like a fine wine, what starts out as a simple story draws us into the lives of these fine men, and their families as well. Before you know it, your heart is racing, and the tears are flowing! Perhaps an overused cliche, but truly, they just don't make films like this anymore! What's more, you get to see James Arness cry! Real men, these.

It's the Duke vs. Mother Nature, and folks...Mother Nature's REALLY pissed!
